Vent Basics:
First cold seawater seeps through cracks in the ocean floor. Then oxygen is removed to the point where it becomes acidic. It picks up dissolved metals (iron, copper, and zinc). Hot liquids then become less dense and more buoyant than cold liquids. The hydro-thermal fluids exit the chimney and mix with the cold seawater.
Vent Boiling Points:
Vent Boiling Points:
1000m down: 310 degrees Celsius
2000m down: 370 degrees Celsius
3000m down: 410 degrees Celsius
4000m down: 445 degrees Celsius
5000m down: 480 degrees Celsius
The water becomes more dense as you go deeper into the ocean.

Vent Chemistry:
As you go down the ocean, it'll contain different chemicals. When the fluid rises up through the seafloor, it carries many new chemicals with it. These chemical reactions also remove chemicals from the seawater. Density also decreases as you go down.
Vents Around the World:
Hydrothermal vents can be found beneath the ocean floor. e.g.,⇨ juan de fuca
Vent Life:
Octopuses, tubewarms, dandelions, cabs, and mussels can be found around hydrothermal vents.
Tubeworm Antamony
The tube is made out of a hard substance called chitin, muscle hold the worm in the tube. The cavity is packed with bacteria. The plume contains the blood.
Chemosynthesis
Photosynthesis relies on light to synthesize while chemosynthesis relies on hydrothermal fluid that come out of the vents.
Hot Topics on Vent Science:
Godzillas, sasquatches, and homer simpson. Curious names of deep sea features:
Names of vents usually derive from the similarity it has to other shapes. Sasquatch was named after the mythical creature seen lurking the mounntains of the Pacific Northwest. Salty Dawg was named because it was emitting salty fluids.
